I have always wanted to have a team to root for. Unfortunately, I live in Connecticut and we didn’t have any teams growing up. And no, I am not rooting for UCONN. Nothing against them, but I didn’t go there. I wanted to root for a team I had an affinity with.
2010: I watched The Beautiful Game and attempted to become a fan, but it turns out I’m just a once-a-four-year World Cup fan. I’ve learned to be okay with that.
2014: Enter @WNBA: the Connecticut Suns, finally a CT team. But because the sports channels be hatin’ it was really tough to watch games. So that kinda fizzled.
2025: Then came Unrivaled, a women’s basketball league, founded by Breanna Stewart and Napheesa Collier, that features top professional female ballers. This three-on-three format is fast paced and thrilling to watch. The season only lasts only eight weeks. And you best believe I watch as many games as possible. There are no location based teams (they all play in Miami) so I don’t feel like a traitor to my state. I chose the Lunar Owls: Hootie Hoo! And they are playing this weekend, and you best believe I will be glued to my TV.
And once the season is done, I will return to the WNBA to proudly support my Connecticut Suns, now that I discovered there’s an app where I can watch the games.
What sports and teams do you rep?
