Rekindling My Writing Dream ✍🏾✨

This daily writing habit has revived my past writing aspirations. Back in 2017, during a week off from work, I decided to write fiction. I spent five days in my apartment writing and editing my stories. I loved every single second. The time flew by and the story that was born is part of a series that I’ve dreamed of writing but haven’t.
I did write a first rough draft of a book in 2019. At the time, I was documenting my writing process on a podcast but quickly learned I did not enjoy the novel writing process. What I ended up with reads like a 7,000-word outline itinerary. They went here and did this. Then they went there and did that. And then this happened. Repeat.
I didn’t like it then and when I recently reread those words, I still don’t like it.
BUT, I had a thought: what if I wrote a series of short stories instead?
My genius is in writing flash fiction (1,000 words or less), but I’m considering testing out short stories. Novels take waaaayyyyy too long.
I write that now, but one day, I’ll tell you all I’ve written a book, and you’ll all say: “Remember when you said you hated writing books?” And I’ll say, “Maybe.”
I’m actually excited to go back to this idea with new eyes and a new perspective. I have so many ideas of how I could produce it. It could be short stories. It could be an audio drama. It could be a comic book. So many options, but first…I have to write the stories.
Are you circling back to something you used to love doing?
