My Eyes Betrayed Me: My Glasses Era Begins 🤦🏽‍♀️👓

ree

For years, I have prided myself on getting older and not having to wear glasses. Majority of my immediate family wear them, but not me. And then last year, I noticed I was having trouble reading a physical book. The words were small and blurry, especially if I got within a certain distance of the pages. I brushed it off thinking they make the print in these books way to small nowadays. I returned the book to the library and got a digital copy, where I could make the font bigger: much better.

Then one night at dinner, my boyfriend said, “You hold the menu really far from your face. You might need glasses.” First of all, how dare he.

“I’m admiring the graphic designer’s work in its entirety. Someone took the time to design this, and I am taking the time to appreciate it,” I clarified. He wasn’t buying it.

At my next eye doctor appointment, I mentioned what my boyfriend said. After making me squint one eye, cover the other, now open both eyes, and read the last line, he confirmed that I am far-sighted.

“You’ve only lasted this long because you have long arms, but eventually, you’re going to run out of length,” he explained.

I was not happy, but I went to pick out my frames, and now here I am. I was instructed to wear my glasses whenever I am reading and especially when I’m looking at a screen. To me, that translated into wearing them only at work, where my job is to stare at a screen all day. But at home, I didn’t feel like taking the glasses out of my bag. It’s too much work.

Last night, I discovered while reading an article on my laptop that I had to push the screen a few inches and make that face you make when you vaguely can make out the shapes of letters. Ugh! So, I’m gonna have to invest in a second pair of glasses to keep at home. Booooo!

This is so not fair and it's weird. Why won’t they just keep working! And I will never get contacts, seeing my finger approach my eye causes a blinking fit. So, there’s that.
